For years, glasses have been Ross' constant companion & they’re a hassle. They fog up during workouts, perch precariously on his nose during hikes, and seem to have a life of their own when getting lost or scratched. So, when Ross finally decided to explore vision correction surgery, we knew Cutarelli Vision was the spot and we booked a free consultation.

Paperwork and Pre-Op

We arrived at Cutarelli Vision in the Denver Tech Center and made ourselves comfortable in the lobby. The lobby was inviting with a ton of natural light, clean, and free beverages were available. The front-desk staff was kind and attentive (shout-out to Jackie), giving direction on necessary paperwork and how the consultation would run. Ross filled out said paperwork, then the free consultation began.

Consultation: A Clear Picture

The free consultation was an eye-opener (a necessary pun). This was a comprehensive eye examination where the vision tech & doctor explained each step and answered all of our questions in detail. Dr. Amanda G. discussed candidacy for LASIK vs LASEK, considering Ross' specific corneal thickness. LASEK (PRK) is for those with astigmatism & thinner corneas, which was the case for Ross.

We discussed pricing & financing options with Refractive Coordinator, Irina Humphrey - she was lovely & knowledgeable. Make sure to ask about any current promotions/discounts!

Feeling confident & informed, we scheduled Ross’ Lasek surgery right then and there. Dr. Amanda G. then provided us with detailed pre-operative care that outlined everything Ross needed to do to prepare for surgery from arranging for a ride home on surgery day, picking up two prescription eye-drops & ordering artificial tears.

(Ross’ eyes were dilated for the consultation so having someone to drive you home or using a ride-share after the consultation is recommended.)

Surgery Day

On surgery day, the staff at Cutarelli Vision eased Ross' pre-surgery nerves. Valium was provided onsite to make Ross even more comfortable, as well as eye-numbing drops. Dr. Cutarelli came & introduced himself to Ross and went over how the procedure would run. He has performed over 90,000 procedures and he's a master of calming bedside manner.

We were in the office about 2 hours on surgery day but when Ross was finally brought into the surgery room, the procedure itself was super quick – 3-4 minutes per eye and we were only in the surgery room for a grand total of 11 minutes. ELEVEN MINUTES - brilliant. During surgery you can expect some pressure on the eye but minimal discomfort. Dr. Cutarelli maintained a calm and reassuring demeanor throughout surgery, all the while constantly checking on Ross’ comfort level. The focus on Ross’ well-being & level of attentiveness made the surgery itself a very positive experience.

Following the successful surgery, I drove Ross home.

The first 24 hours post-surgery were challenging but they went by quickly. Light sensitivity & blurriness were present (& to be expected), but the medication & eye drops provided significant relief. We followed Cutarelli Vision's post-operative instructions to the tee – religiously using the prescribed eyedrops 4 times daily, avoiding rubbing of the eyes, wearing protective eye gear, and getting plenty of rest – all key for a full recovery.

Within 4 days (recovery time is a bit longer with LASEK, I was fine in 1 day following LASIK), the blurriness started to subside, and by the one-week follow-up appointment, Ross' vision was already 20/20. AMAZING.

Today, more than a week after Ross' LASEK surgery at Cutarelli Vision, we can confidently say it was one of the best decisions we've ever made. Ross is no longer fumbling with glasses and his vision is perfect. He can wake up every morning and see the world clearly - what a freeing feeling and one I can recall from my procedure back in 2018.
