Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar, LoDo
Looking for some seafood before a ball game? Jax Fish House in LoDo is located just blocks from Coors Field & Ball arena. This seafood house has released a brand-new specialty menu available on all home game days for the Rockies, Avalanche, & Nuggets.
The game day menu boasts a solid lineup of game-day treats, including: the Jax Sea Dog (my favorite), Crab Cake Sliders, a Gumbo-Topped Hot Dog, Sweet Potato Chips, Deep-Fried Jax Peanuts, & the Purple Wave Cocktail (available during Rockies home games only).
We started with a half dozen oysters - 2 Crackerjax, 2 Sex on Bay, & 2 Royal Miyagi. The Crackerjax were farmed from the mouth of the York River and were sweet & salty. The Sex on Bay had deeper cups & medium salinity with a savory finish. The Royal Miyagi had a taste of savory brine upfront with a cucumber finish.
The Jax Sea Dog was a unique creation that featured a Kosher dog dressed with Jax's signature mustard, a touch of hot sauce, and a decadent helping of crab meat. For those that know me, I'm a big hot dog girl so this new menu item had my name written all over it - it was SO good. The piping hot dog provided a savory base for the sweet helping of crab meat. The snap of the hot dog contrasted well against the soft bun & flaky crab meat.
The Crab Cake Sliders were bite-sized portions of Jax's famous crab cakes served on soft slider buns. The sweet crab cakes were dressed with a creamy, tangy aioli sauce.
The Gumbo-Topped Hot Dog was topped with hot gumbo and cheese.
For feature cocktails we had the Saturn & the Orangutang. The Saturn was made with Barr Hill Gin, chinola, lemon, orgeat, & falernum. The Orangutang was made with Astral Blanco Tequila, Montenegro, acidified orange, & crushed orange rim.
For regular starters, we had the Burrata and the Fried New England Calamari. The Burrata was served atop pear and dried cherry mostarda, sunflower crunch, everything cracker, & mugolio. The Fried New England Calamari was served alongside ango-chile mojo, lime aïoli.
For Seasonal Entrees we had the Hawaiian Mahi Mahi and the Seared New England Scallops. The Mahi was served atop harrisa, trumpet mushrooms, romanesco, preserved lemon, roasted potatoes, & curry yogurt. The Scallops were served with root vegetable hash, andouille sausage, pickled red onion, frisee, & fennel soubise.
For sides we had the Baked Lobster Mac & the Tater Tots.
With its close proximity to the stadiums and a vibrant atmosphere, Jax LoDo provides the ideal pre/post game day ritual. Enjoy delicious food, energize with a signature cocktail (or two), and get ready to cheer on your favorite Denver team to victory!
