Toro, Latin Kitchen & Lounge
Toro, meaning “bull” in Spanish, specializes in Pan-Latin Cuisine & brings upscale Latin flair to Cherry Creek. We just had a phenomenal dinner at Toro & they have numerous new items on the menu that will keep everyone coming back for more!
Toro has free valet parking and is located in the JW Marriot.
We were seated in the main dining room. The aesthetic of Toro is that of South American casual sophistication with beautiful bull installations & horn artwork throughout the space.
Dinner service at Toro continues to impress. Steven was our server and his vivacious energy & comprehensive knowledge of the menu led us through a spectacular meal. Steven's descriptions of the new dishes on Toro's menu had our mouths watering before the food even hit the table. It's this kind of menu expertise that fully enveloped us into our meal & prompted us to try items on the menu we wouldn't have ordered on our own. Steven really made us cognizant of not only the cooking methods being used in the kitchen, but also of each ingredient that was chosen to create each dish. General Manager, Alyssa Sturm was gracious & delightful. Alyssa went through the new items on the menu with us and made sure we knew what her favorites were.
I started our meal with a specialty Mezcal cocktail from the bar. Toro has an impressive beverage program that specializes in tequila, rum, & mezcal handcrafted cocktails.
My mezcal cocktail had a complex flavor with smoky, herby overtones & soft, sweet undertones.
For starters we had the Colorado Guacamole, the Sweet Corn Empanada, Colorado Bison Anticucho, Crispy Prawns and Bison Tiradito. The Crispy Prawns and Bison Tiradito are new on Toro's menu.
The Colorado Guacamole is made with roasted heirloom beets, sun dried apricots, boulder chevre cheese, pomegranate and toasted pumpkin seeds.
The Colorado Guacamole was beautiful - just look at all those colors. & the texture of the Colorado Guacamole was inspired. The creamy avocado combined with the snap of the plantains, chew of the sun dried apricots, light pop of the pomegranate seeds & crunch of the toasted pumpkin seeds was spot on.
The Sweet Corn Empanadas are made with aji amarillo, avocado purée, manchego cheese and chimichurri.
YES. The Sweet Corn Empanadas continue to be one of my absolute favorites at Toro & are a must order! The empanadas were delicious flakey, buttery puff pastries filled with creamy, sweet corn goodness. The avocado purée was my favorite to dip the empanadas in.
The Colorado Bison Anticucho are served with peruvian aji adobo, chimichurri & charred corn salad.
The Colorado Bison Anticucho had an explosion of gamey flavor & unbelievable tenderness. The aji adobo & chimichurri added spice and tang to the bison.
The Crispy Prawns are panko breaded and served with melcocha sauce, arugula, mango and red chile.
The Crispy Prawns were next level and we're so glad Alyssa recommended these as one of her favorites! The shrimps were lightly breaded and had a crisp crunch. The shrimp had a kick of spice from the red chile. The melcocha and mango introduced a nice sweetness to the shrimp and cut through some of the spice. More please!
The Bison Tiradito is served with truffle chipotle ponzu, pickled shimeji mushrooms & crispy onion.
YUM. We're so glad Steven recommended the Bison Tiradito. The Bison Tiradito was thinly sliced, sauced & then served immediately. The Bison was a beautiful raw red in it's interior with a thin layer of dark coarse texture on the exterior. The Bison was delicate, sweet & clean in flavor. The aftertaste was that of the freaking mind blowing truffle chipotle ponzu sauce. & the best way to understand this delicious sauce is to taste it for yourself!
For entrees we had the Colorado Striped Bass Sudado and the Simply Grilled 8oz Bison Filet Mignon. Both are new options on Toro's menu.
The Colorado Striped Bass Sudado is served with chinese spinach, miso, panca, coriander & dashi.
The Colorado Striped Bass Sudado blew us away - Steven coming in again hot with the stellar recommendation! The Colorado Striped Bass Sudado was pan seared on one side and then steam cooked on the other. This resulted in a piping hot, light & flakey fish that was prepared healthily. The Colorado striped bass was mild in flavor with a tender bite. The miso, coriander & dashi made the bass versatile in umami savor & complemented the fresh white fish beautifully.
The Simply Grilled 8oz Bison Filet Mignon was served with Argentinean chimichurri.
The Bison Filet was lean with a pronounced red meat flavor. The filet had slight earthy tones. The shishito peppers were SPICY AF & phenom to pair with a bite of filet.
We had the Roasted Heirloom Carrots and the Pork Belly Mac & Cheese as sides. The Roasted Heirloom Carrots are served with pepita pistú & cashew nut aioli.
Hands-down the best carrots we have ever had! The carrots were sweet & colorful - an elegant fully vegan side dish. They were lightly caramelized around the edges and soft centered. The cashew nut aioli was a delicious creamy sauce the carrots sat atop. Thank you Steven for another wonderful recommendation!
The Pork Belly Mac & Cheese is made with Stranahan’s whiskey & chorizo bread crumbs.
The Pork Belly Mac & Cheese was a hearty, comfort food side.
For dessert we had the La Bomba. La Bomba is made with a chocolate sphere, cookie crumbles, seasonal berries and assorted sorbets & ice creams.
WOW - what a theatrical treat! La Bomba was described to us as flamboyant dessert nachos which was totally accurate. The dessert was brought out in a half chocolate orb and then SMASHED onto our table. The dark chocolate pieces, berries, sorbet & ice cream were then drizzled with sauce. YES PLEASE. The dark chocolate was delicate, bitter and sweet & combined with all the other fillings perfectly.
What a meal! Huge thanks to Toro, Latin Kitchen & Lounge, Steven, Alyssa, Richard Sandoval Restaurants & Edicott PR for hosting us!
Check it out babes and let them know that denv.her. sent you! xx
