The Original
We dined at The Original (The OG) for dinner over the weekend and this new neighborhood eatery draws its menu inspiration from classic American plates with a playful twist of modern flair. The OG is an all-day destination where patrons will be able to eat, drink, work and play!
The OG is in the newly constructed McGregor Square directly across from Coors Field. The restaurant encompasses modern day diner vibes with warm vintage inspired glass and steel light fixtures & retro diner booths. The restaurant has a huge patio that we will certainly be taking advantage of this spring and summer.
We were seated in the main dining room at an inlet booth. Michael, our server, came right over once we were seated and gave us a run down of the menu. Michael was an absolute doll and really made our meal at The OG memorable! He had amazing energy and knew the ins and outs of what the restaurant had to offer.
We started off our meal with some cocktails. We had the Down the Hatch and Vodka Martinis. The Down the Hatch is made with Herradura Silver, Ancho Reyes Poblano Chili, Chareau Aloe Liqueur, Agave, and Lime.
This spicy marg had a good balance of sweet and heat; this was was my favorite cocktail at the OG.
Ashley loved the Vodka Martini and this cocktail had hint of sweet greenery and subtle saltiness from the olives.
For our 'Sharing is Caring' plate, we had the Ricotta Toast. The Ricotta Toast is made with Seasonal Fruit Compote, Housemade Sweet Ricotta, and Grilled Bread.
The Ricotta toast was a nice starter. The ricotta was creamy and interplayed well with the seasonal fruit jam on the crunchy toast.
More cocktails! This is the Resting Spritz Face (I love this name) and the Peter Piper.
The Resting Spritz Face will be for Spritz lovers out there and is made with Leopold Bros. Aperitivo, Truly Strawberry Lemonade Seltzer, and San Pellegrino Blood Orange Soda. The Peter Piper is made with Hendrick’s Gin, Fancy Vermouth Blend, Olive Bitters, Lemon Salt, and Pickled Peppers.
For our entrees - aka 'I Like Big Plates & I Cannot Lie' - we had the Roasted Half Chicken and the Pan Roasted Idaho Trout.
The Roasted Chicken Half comes with Bottomless Shoestring Fries and Chicken Jus.
The Roasted Chicken Half was SO tasty; the chicken was tender, juicy & had a lot of flavor! The chicken jus on the side was a nice touch to enhance the flavor of the chicken even more. The fries were piping hot and crisp on the outside - just the way I like them! This is a great comfort food entree yet isn’t too heavy.
The Pan Roasted Idaho Trout comes with Warm Lemony Potato Salad and Fresh Herbs.
This was our first time trying trout it won’t be the last! The trout meat was delicate and tender with a mild, nut-like flavor. The Potato Salad the Trout came on was *chef’s kiss* & complemented the trout so well; it was zesty and well seasoned.
For dessert - 'Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow' - we had the Warm Brownie Sundae. The Warm Brownie Sundae is made with Gooey Batter, Pretzel-Pecan Brittle and topped with Caramel & Vanilla Ice Cream.
I can't resist a brownie sundae and this one was amazing! Warm, cold, sweet and salty, this dessert has it all.
Big thanks to The Original for hosting us and to Michael for taking such good care of us! Check it out Denverites and let them know that denv.her. sent you!
