The Broadmoor
Ross and I celebrated our anniversary with a staycation at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. The Broadmoor is a Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond resort. We had a beautiful weekend aside from some hiccups in service.
Before our stay, I went to make reservations at The Broadmoor's restaurants & spa, which proved to be difficult. The Broadmoor had OpenTable listed on their restaurant website pages yet when I tried to reserve through OpenTable, it wouldn't let me. So, to make reservations at any of The Broadmoor's restaurants, I had to call the hotel directly. This wouldn't be too much of a nuisance if The Broadmoor staffed ample coordinators to assist in making reservations but when I called, I was on hold for 20 minutes until I was connected to a reservation coordinator. For a Five-Star hotel, booking restaurant reservations should be available online.
I made dinner reservations and then asked to be transferred to The Spa. I booked a couples massage and asked for a confirmation email with our itinerary. I never received a confirmation so I had a feeling the woman I had spoken to didn't make the reservation correctly.
I called back the next day and after being on hold for 20 minutes (typical), I was connected to Central Reservations Agent, Adrian Havens. I let Adrian know I hadn't received my couples massage confirmation from the spa so she pulled up our itinerary. Adrian let me know the agent I had spoken to initially booked us for massages but it was not couples massage. Ugh. Adrian apologized & scheduled us for a couples massage 2 hours AFTER the original time I had requested (now there were no couple's rooms available at the time I originally booked for). This wasn't Adrian's fault, it was the first coordinator's fault for booking us incorrectly, but I was still irked. A "Forbes Five-Star" hotel shouldn't have basic booking mistakes like this.
Upon our staycation arrival, we were directed to the West Tower of the hotel.
The lobby of the West Tower is beautifully refined and is adorned with tasteful chandeliers, stained glass skylights, deep cherry wood and marble floors.
Check in was seamless and the Reception Desk employees were informative, classy & friendly. They gave us all the info we needed about the hotel and also pet-care info for our dog. The Broadmoor is a pet friendly resort so we brought our dog, Forbes along! Bringing your pet (dog or cat) adds a $75 pet fee to the room (per pet) and there is a 2 pet maximum per room.
Two Bellhops/Porters assisted us with our bags and took us up to our room, These bellhops were friendly AF & kept the conversation flowing.
We booked a Junior Suite complete with a King Bed, sitting area, a work desk area and a vanity. The room was beautiful and very clean - I loved the baby blue walls, natural light from the large picture windows & chandelier.
The bed was extremely comfortable and had plenty of pillows. In our sitting area, there was a complimentary bottle of champagne waiting for us for our anniversary! This was a much appreciated gesture.
Covid sucks and has unfortunately impacted how The Broadmoor can cater to guest's comfort when it comes to in-room dining. The room mini bar was empty and there were no snacks available in the room. In-room dining was super limited and was only running for a brief period of time in the morning and a brief period of time in the evening. The in-room dining we did order was painfully slow (even with the limited menu) and we couldn't pre-order any in-room dining (ie ordering breakfast the night prior). All of this shocked us as we had just stayed at a Forbes Five-Star hotel on the East Coast and that hotel had ALL of their minibar and in-room dining options readily available 24/7.
But now onto more paw-sitive things! The Broadmoor really cares about guest's furry friends and provides doggy clean-up bags, dog bedding and food bowls in the hotel room for you and your pet's convenience.
The Broadmoor has 24 hour dog food available for purchase if you choose not to bring your own dog food along. There are designated pet stations on The Broadmoor's property where the pups can do their business. Whenever I went out to walk Forbes, numerous hotel employees would ask if they could give Forbes treats. I loved how all the employees actively engaged with the dogs staying at the hotel!
We had to pre-arrange Housekeeping since dogs must be out of the rooms while they're being cleaned. The pre-arranged cleaning went well on Friday but on Saturday, Housekeeping didn't come while we were out walking the dog. I called to complain as we were going to have to go to the spa shortly and leave Forbes in the room (so it couldn't be cleaned during that time) - on that call, housekeeping said they weren't aware we had a dog...lol. This was an odd statement as our previous cleaning was scheduled around the dog, but they sent someone up right away after I complained. No harm, no foul.
In the West Tower, there are hallways filled with pictures of politicians, athletes, and celebrities that have stayed at The Broadmoor before. It was fun looking through these pictures and the area has beautiful floral wallpaper.
We went on several walks around The Broadmoor’s property and it’s beautiful - they take great care of the landscaping.
The Broadmoor has lots of hiking options around the hotel and we checked out Garden of the Gods. This park was about 15 minutes away from the hotel and is dog friendly. Broadmoor's courteous valet employees gave us maps of our hiking destination so we knew where to go once in the park.
During our stay, we dined at:
Ristorante Del Lago - Thursday Dinner (Click Here for review)
La Taverne - Friday Dinner (this was our favorite meal that we had at the hotel, stay tuned for full review)
The Golden Bee - Saturday Dinner ( stay tuned for full review)
Ristorante Del Lago - Sunday Brunch (Click Here for review)
We also visited the spa twice during our stay (stay tuned for full review).
We will certainly stay at The Broadmoor for more staycations in the future.
