American Elm

WOW!!

is all I can say Denverites - we just had an unreal dining experience at American Elm and I cannot wait to share the details with you!

American Elm has committed to opening under the safest measures this summer. They are an ‘open air restaurant’ with a big patio and two large opening bay doors to the interior dining room so fresh air flow is fully optimized throughout the restaurant.

This was our first time dining on American Elm’s patio and it was magical to say the least! Something about sitting outside in the Colorado summer air and being blanketed in shade by one of the few remaining American Elm’s this large in the state is something really special. We already are planning our next dining experience here!

Not only was the ambience 10/10, the cocktails & food blew us away! & service was top notch as always! Big thanks to Manager, Alex and Waitress, Jasmine for taking such good care of us.

Now, is there anything better than a summer inspired cocktail on a patio? NOPE. & American Elm has a long list of drink creations that will have your tastebuds singing!

From The Bar - Kali started with Pim’s Cup and per our lovely waitress - Jasmine’s - recommendation, I went with the Pandan Chi Chi.

a5.jpg

Pimm’s Cup is made with Pimm’s No.1, lemon, cucumber, blackberry, and Fever Tree ginger beer. This cocktail is shaken and served long in a Collins glass. Pimm’s Cup is fresh & lively drink - v redolent of summer.

The Pandan Chi Chi is made with Absolut Elyx Vodka, pandan, coconut, pineapple, & lime. This cocktail is shaken and served in a pilsner glass over crushed ice.

BIG

FAN of this drink lol.

Folks - TG for Jasmine’s recommendation - because the Pandan Chi Chi is sent straight from the Tropical & Tiki Mixologist Gods to satisfy all of Denver’s summer cocktail needs. I am not kidding. It is that freaking good…I had 3. #cantstopwontstop

Kali also tried the Short & Sour cocktail, The Business.

a18.jpg

The Business is made with Family Jones House Gin, lime, and honey. Shaken and served up in a dainty coupe - a nice cocktail.

Kal finished up The Business & then we doubled down on the Pandan Chi Chi’s.

We are officially in the Pandan Chi Chi fan clurb.

To Start - we ordered a dozen assorted Oysters, the Deviled Eggs, and the Crab Fritters.

American Elm serves up my favorite oysters in Denver - THEY ARE DIVINE. We ordered 6 of the Olde Salts oysters from Watts Bay (VI) and 6 of the Eagle Rock oysters from the Totten Inlet, Puget Sound (WA). The oysters are served with Peach-Rosé Mignonette, Cocktail Sauce, and Salsa Verde Sauce.

Just look at these beauts!

a10.jpg

Plump, juicy and that glistening sheen all around. These oysters are fresh AF. The Olde Salts oysters have that brilliant salinity you can expect from the Atlantic coast and the Puget Sound oysters have that bright & sweet tang you can expect from the Pacific. I dream about these oysters.

The Deviled Eggs are served with smoked yolk, mustard seed, and American Elm's house pork belly.

a9.jpg

The Deviled Eggs have a beautiful, velvety filling and the house pork belly adds a nice crunch!

The Crab Fritters are southern comfort food done right & reminded us of hush puppies!

a8.jpg

The Fritters are nice and crisp on the outside and densely breaded on the inside. The creamy remoulade dipping sauce that comes with the fritters is amazing.

Salads & Mains - we went with the Summer Salad per Alex’s recommendation and the Pepita Pesto Pasta.

The Summer Salad is made with arugula, candied walnut, grilled corn, compressed melon, local basil, feta, rose vin.

a13.jpg

This salad is the epitome of summer - light & fresh with little globes of watermelon found throughout. The texture differentiation in the Summer Salad is *chef’s kiss*!

The Pepita Pesto Pasta is made with house bucatini, summer squash, local mushroom, charred pepper and goat cheese.

a12.jpg

The flavorful pesto is tossed in thick house-made bucatini pasta and the summer squash makes this a light and ideal pasta for the hotter months!
