Christmas Decorating, Topsy-Turvy Elf Tree

“Trim up the tree with Christmas stuff! Like bingle balls and Whofoo fluff!”

- Trim Up the Tree, Dr. Seuss

You know what makes everyone happy? Christmas!

2020 hasn’t been the best (as most everyone can agree lol) & I was more than ready for some extra happy in the Hardin household! How to bring in more cheer? Getting the Christmas decorations up early this year. I’m more than ready for those special and joyful holiday moments that come from Christmas decorations; & having the tree up is also making WFH more enjoyable!

I am a firm believer that each Christmas Tree needs it’s own theme. Once you figure out the theme (or story) for your tree; you can then decorate the rest of the room accordingly.

I like to call my Christmas tree’s theme the ‘Topsy-Turvy Elf Tree’. My tree’s story is centered around a magical elf who is stuffed in the tree & trying to get it ready for Santa’s arrival (all the while eating every sweet he can find). My main colors are red and green with pops of white and gold throughout.

Let’s go ahead & get Topsy- Turvy, shall we?! Press play on the video below to see my tree come to life:

Let’s take a another look at the final product and a closer look at some of the ornaments & details!

Love it!!

Looking to create your own Topsy-Turvy Elf Tree? I can help you out with that. Below I have linked comparable products on Amazon that will help you get started. Happy shopping!

(PS - if you’d rather shop for your decorations in store, I highly recommend Hobby Lobby!)

First, get your tree - our tree is 9ft and prelit.

Second, get your ribbon - I chose green and red ribbon. (put your ribbon on the tree prior to any ornaments!)

Third, get your elf legs (this is the main focus of a Topsy-Turvy Elf Tree and they should go on your tree following the ribbon!

Fourth, get your ornaments. Place all larger ornaments on the tree followed by smaller ones. Keep your color scheme and story line in mind! Along with picking out red, green, gold and white ornaments (balls and baubles) I tried to think of things Buddy the Elf would like when picking our ornaments out - SWEETS (candy canes, cupcakes, peppermints, hot chocolate, gingerbread), Santa (“I know him”), presents, reindeer, etc.

PS - now that you have all these beautiful ornaments, where are you going to put them after Christmas? I swear by these ornament storage bags & I have two of them. I take out the organization trays as I prefer to wrap my ornaments in paper but it’s whatever you like!

Fith, get your decorative sticks and ornament clips and place them on your tree last. The sticks/stems really fill out the tree!

Happy decorating my little sugar plums!!
